Mapping Humanities Data
Learn from Dr. Kayla Stan (Assistant Professor of Geography - GIS Science) and Dr. Patrick Hoehne (Assistant Professor of History & Digital Humanities) about the basics of Geographic Information Systems and how to map humanities data with digital tools!
These tutorials are possible through the partnership between USM’s Center for Digital Humanities and Geography & Geology of the School of Biological, Environmental, and Earth Sciences (BEES) at Southern Miss.
Session #1
This is a recording of the first mapping session (Friday, October 20th, 2023) where Dr. Hoehne introduced a selection of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) basics: terminology, .csv spreadsheets, and georeferencing old maps.
Part 1 is a recording from the workshop session, while parts 2 and 3 are screen recordings that were later taken to aid in screen readability.
Session #2
This is a recording of the second mapping workshop session (Friday, November 3rd, 2023) where Dr. Stan demonstrated how to share GIS data on the web.
